At The Vets we understand how important your animals are to you. There are a number of basic checks that you can perform at home, to make sure your pet is fit and healthy.
Things to keep an eye on at home (in particular for older cats and dogs):
Teeth - Check you pets teeth. Are they white, do the gums look healthy?
Mobility - Monitor your pet's mobility. Does your pet struggle to get up after snoozing or on cold mornings? Is your pet a little stiffer than usual? Does your pet enjoy his walks?
Skin & Coat - Check your pets skin and coat - is your pet's coat still clean and glossy? Does your pet's coat smell bad?
Weight - Monitor your pet's weight by using the scales at the clinic
Eyes - Are your pets eyes clear, does you pet bump into things around the house?
Ears - Are your pet's ears clean and free of wax? Do your pet's ears smell bad?
Eating & Drinking - Monitor your pets eating and drinking habits - is your pet drinking / eating more or less than usual?
Breathing - Has your pets breathing pattern changed at all, does your pet pant, cough or suffer from shortness of breath?
If you are unsure about any of these questions feel free to call and speak to one of our nurses.
