As you know a regular check up is vital in keeping a pet healthy and a senior pet requires more frequent examinations.
As you would know from your own health what you see on the outside through an examination is really only half the picture and a good way to get the other half of the picture is to run a routine blood screen.
A routine blood screen gives us a look from the inside out! A senior blood screen involves 12 blood chemistry tests and a haematology screen. The 12 blood chemistry tests examine liver, kidney and pancreatic function, cholesterol and blood glucose while the haematology screen looks at red and white blood cells as well as inflammatory cells. These blood tests are done in our in-house laboratory and the results of the tests can be processed in as little as 20 minutes.
From the results of these tests we can detect a number of changes which may indicate disease, many of these diseases can be controlled or resolved with dietary changes or medical management. Urine tests can also be helpful in diagnosing problems.
